Poker run winners and Ride to Remember update!

As many of you know there were two poker runs which were designed as fundraisers for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Prince Edward Island. Thanks very much to everyone who participated, who worked on it with me and those who volunteered your time.

Friday's poker run had about 55 bikes with an additional 15 passengers. The winner of this poker run wishes to remain anonymous and kindly donated the $100 prize money back to the Foundation. Thanks!

Saturday's poker run had approximately 214 bikes with around 55 additional passengers! Great turn out and thank you to everyone for your patience waiting in the line ups at registration and at some of the locations for cards. Something to improve on next year. The winner of Saturday's poker run was Jack MacKenzie from PEI. Congrats Jack - he was very excited!

The Ride to Remember tribute ride was amazing! Estimates are between 250 & 400 bikes. Someone said that they stopped counting after 300. It was great to see people standing on the side of the road waving at the bikes as they rode by. For those of you that purchased bandanas - thank you. Wear them with pride as they represent those in our lives who have been affected by heart disease and stroke.

Ride safe for the rest of the season and hope to see you back next year.

What a weekend!!

Well I have had a couple of days to recoupe from all the festivities of the Red Island Run this past weekend and I am happy to report that the weekend was a great success.  We had aprox. 1000/1200 bikes participate in the first time event and everyone that I spoke with was happy with what they saw.  The weather co-operated with offering us nothing but beautiful sunshine and warm weather.  The entertainment was great, not only at night in the concert hall but durring the day as well when the Hub City Stunters were performing as well as the people who were doing the drags at Oyster Bed Speedway.  All the vendors agreed that the setting on the waterfront was spectacular and the turnout was way better than they had anticipated.  Thanks again to all the great sponsors who helped to make this event possible as well as Harley Davidson for sending along their Demo Truck so that people could test drive all the new bikes comming out for 2011. They have really set the bar high this year. Everyone was able to find somehting that they liked. One of the highlights of the weekend was meeting custom bike builder Bob MacKay as he showed off his latest bikes that were on display.  Everyone who met him could not believe how down to earth he was and the fact that he would take the time to talk with anyone regardless of age or if they even had a bike.  Anyway, thanks to all those that attended the first Red Island Run, we truly hope to see you there next year.

Time is short

Well, we have the prospects of great weather.....sun and just a few clouds....we have a great program of events and things for everybody at the Seaport Centre and at Raceway Park on Saturday, so I guess that for now we can only count on you dropping by to see the bikes, the vendors, the stunt riders, the fashion show and othjer exciting things that will be happening at the inaugral Red Island Run motorcycle Rally.

We look forward to seeing you, whether you own or wish you owned, a 2 wheel motorcycle, of any brand or color!!

Two days to go!

Festival tents are going up, getting lots of calls from people looking for information on the rally and the poker runs. Boomer is promising good weather! :-) Poker runs Friday & Saturday are going to be fantastic. I was riding in the front seat of a police car, yes... not the back seat, yesterday going over the Ride to Remember parade route to make sure that we have a smooth ride through town! We'll get to run red lights legally!

If you don't ride then come out & sit along the parade route, see the bikes as they go by, make banners, plaques with the names of people in your life affected by heart disease & stroke! Wear red to show your support! We depart from Green Valley Market on Rte. 2 at 4:30 pm. Parade route: Lower Malpeque Rd., North River Rd., Euston St., Brighton Rd., around Victoria Park, Kent St., Prince St. and onto Water St.. We will be escorted by the Charlottetown City Police and the RCMP will be helping us with stopping traffic on Rte. 2 to get us on our way! Thanks very much to both organizations for their support.

This event is for everyone - come down to the Seaport Centre in Charlottetown see the beautiful bike that will be there - cruisers, sport bikes and Jake Shaw's bikes of interest!

Red Island Run offers a great package deal

Hey folks,

Just a reminder that the Red Island Run is offering a great package to participate in the rally events in 2 weeks in Chalottetown.

Although you do not have to register to participate, the committee is offering tickets to both entertainment evenings, featuring top PEI talent, a lobster dinner at one of a number of great Island eating establishments and a souvenir Red Island Run t-shirt. All four items for a mere $65. You can order the ticket vouchers on line at http://www.ticketpro.com/

A great lineup of things to do and see and a very attractive price for the food, entertainment and a souvenir of the first ever Red Island Run.

We hope to see you there.

2 weeks and counting.

Good morning everyone.
It is 2 weeks until the first annual Red Island Run begins and it is really starting to sink in that this is going to happen.  Plans have been really progressing well.  We are excited with all the great vendors that have agreed to attend this years first event.  We have everything from riding gear, parts, beauty products, insurance, custom bikes, bike dealers, jewellery, and some great Island food.  The setting for the vendor village is going to be right on the waterfront in Downtown Charlottetown.  First we had Regis and Kelly showing off the waterfront and now we will have a large group of bikes.
The entire weekend is going to be action packed with lots to do and see.  For those wanting to see the Island, we have the Heart and Stroke Poker Runs that will take you to some great locations on PEI.  In order to ensure that you get to see a good cross section of PEI, we will have a ride going east one day and west the other.  Both poker runs are open so you can take whatever route you want and as much time as you like just as long as you are back in time to turn your hand in.  On Saturday we will be meeting in Milton, PEI at 4:30 for the Ride to Remember parade that will be police escorted to the Seaport Centre in Charlotteown.  If you are thinking of getting a new bike it will be a good time to do some test driving.  The Harley Demo truck will be here offering demos of the 2011 models.  They will also be putting on fashion shows throughout the weekend of all the cool clothes and riding gear they have.
For all those wanting to challenge there friends to a race, Saturday you will want to be at the Oyster Bed Raceway.  At this venue you will get to time trial your bike to see what it will do in the quarter mile.  After you are done you can take it right over to the Dyno and have it tested to see where you are lacking.  There will also be some great demonstrations by people who do the racing all the time.  Should be alot of fun.
All weekend there will be the Hub City Stunters showing off their skills.  It is amazing to see these folks handle their bikes, usually on one wheel.  Bob MacKay from http://www.mckayscyclecreations.com/ will be here showing off some of his latest builds.  For those who do not know Bob, check out his website.  He is one of Canada's top builders and is noted for many of his great bikes.
At night when you want to sit down and relax we have the best of the best performing at the Charlottetown Seaport Centre.  This venue is where the cruise ships arrive in Charlottetown.  It is located on the pier looking right out on the water. On Friday night we have the Vogue Optical Red Island Run Kitchen Party featuring the Chaison Family Band and Boys in the Kitchen.  Both of these groups are crowd favorites and will be sure to keep things rocking until the wee hours.  On Saturday night we plan on rocking the place with the KRock 105.5 RIR Rocks party.  This will be the best of Rock and Roll with the Roger Jones Band  followed by Joey Kitson and Big City.
This is just a few of the great things we have planned.  We are certain that between the events that we have planned and all the great things our province has to offer you will not be disapointed when you get here.  REmeber to keep checking out this blog as there will be many updates right up until the starting day.  Hope to see you in 2 weeks.
